March 2015 – MEXICO - According to the State Civil Protection and Fire squad Unit of the State of Jalisco, the Colima Volcano sent another exhalation into the air. On its Twitter account, the agency reported that
the gray colored emission took into the air at 8:17 am, reaching more than two miles high. Just yesterday, the University of Colima informed that the mountain, also known as the Fire Volcano, presents a tendency to increase its size, caused by its eruptive activity, ranging between 10 to 15 explosions.

Geologist Carlos Navarro said that the crater, according to its dimensions, has an oval shape and a diameter going from 170 to 190 meters (557 to 625 feet). The Volcán de Colima, also known as Volcán de Fuego is part of the Colima Volcanic Complex (CVC) consisting of Volcán de Colima, Nevado de Colima and the eroded “El Cántaro” (listed as extinct). It is the younger of the three and is currently one of the most active volcanoes in Mexico and in North America. It has erupted more than 40 times since 1576. –Yucatan Times
